Why solo family practitioners should use WordPress

WordPress is the go-to platform for affordable, professional websites. Sometimes ‘affordable’ can be misconstrued. Here, ‘affordable’ means ‘great value’. Offering thousands of designs, add ons and other customisable features – you’d do well to beat WordPress without being a skilled programmer.

When a website is built the traditional way, there are usually several voices trying to be heard – designers, programmers and yourself all trying to get your point across. So here are 3 reasons why you should snub tradition and build your own website.

1. You get to decide how it looks and works

Let’s face it: nobody knows your industry better than you, right? You’re the one who’s spent hours trawling through other practice’s websites – and there’s no substitute for that.

Have a go at choosing your own theme, and putting together a website without the help of designers. Most of the hard work has already been done by the fantastic developer who coded the theme. Many of the themes are highly customisable, and don’t require any knowledge of code to be altered.

2. You could save thousands

The first website we had at Anderson family matters cost thousands. As I hinted earlier, there was a definite case of ‘too many cooks spoil the broth’.

Although everybody involved was very talented, we ended up with a website that didn’t work as we hoped it would.

The current version of andersonfamilymatters.com cost roughly £40 to put together. Not bad, eh?

3. Most WordPress themes work on smartphones and tablets

Responsive web design (the thing that means a website works on multiple platforms) is the just about the most important feature of any website.

Responsive means that there’s a better chance of you retaining potential clients than if they’re squinting at an outdated website on their laptop or smartphone.

Give them a pleasurable experience, not an impromptu eye test.
