Are You Willing to Offer a Fixed Price to Support Mediation Clients?

More than 50% of our clients don’t have lawyers when they start their mediation.  Typically, this isn’t a problem until a mediation agreement is reached. Then, they need lawyers to help them turn their mediation agreement into a court order. They ask us who might be able to help. We can only tell them that there are plenty lawyers who can help, but we have no idea how much they would charge and suggest they do their own research. This doesn’t feel particularly helpful, and we’d like to do something to change it.

At the close of a mediation, we always discuss the pricing of this specific service with our clients. They will have paid a fixed price for their mediation sessions. This includes all our preparation and routine follow-up work.  They will also have paid a fixed price for any mediation outcome documents we prepare. So its not surprising that most indicate that they would prefer to instruct a lawyer who offers a fixed price to cover the cost of dealing with the final paperwork.

Are you willing to offer a fixed price to support mediation clients? Is it something your firm is interested in? If so, please let me know. I’d like to discuss what it would cover and how best to refer clients who are looking to buy such a service. If you would like to discuss any aspect of this, please give me a call.
