Online Mediation Given the Clear Go-Ahead by FMC

I can confirm that the Family Mediation Council board has approved a raft of updating amendments to its code of practice. These include a clarification that MIAM and mediation meetings may take place via online video. This has long been the subject of uncertainty.

They have also approved some guidance on the matter. Documents will be published by the FMC shortly.

This is great news for those who want to mediate but who do not live close to each other, close to a mediator or are housebound. It’s also good news for many others – especially Generation Y2  – who prefer to do everything they can online.
As someone who has been practising online mediation since 2013, I was delighted to be invited to contribute towards the creation of the new code and guidance.  Other PPCs have referred their consultees to me for help and guidance. If you would like to understand more about the practicalities and risks of online working I offer a two hour supervision session (online via Skype).

Please feel free to phone me to find out more on 01473 487427. If I’m not your PPC, you may wish to check with your own that they will agree it can count towards you annual supervision or training needs.

I am Stephen G Anderson. I am a professional mediator.
